SENIOR CHESS TITLES
M. W. Taylor Loses
First Game
M. W. Taylor lost his unbeaten record and his leading position in the Canterbury Chess Club's senior championships when, playing white, he went down to A. J. Nyman in a recent game. With a win over J A. Hunter. Taylor now stands third to L. J. Walpole and G V. Sumner although having a game in hand of each of them Walpole has six points in seven games. Sumner five and a half in seven, and Taylor five in six games. Walpole beat R S. Abbott, and Sumner defeated Hunter In the intermediate-junior grade. N. M. Cooper and A. L Wilkinson share the lead, each winning their games, and having six points out of a possible seven. Cooper beat R. Mitchell and Wilkinson beat Miss A Wellard-King. Results were: Senior.—Abbott 0. Walpole 1; Taylor 0. Nyman 1; Nyman 0, R. M. Broadbent 1: Sumner 1. Hunter 0; Hunter 0, Taylor 1 Intermediate - Junior. B Andersen 0. Mitchell 1; Cooper 1 Mitchell 0; D K. Watson 0 E. J. On Saturday, a joint team from the Lincoln and Ashburton clubs will travel to Christchurch for a 20-board match with the Canterbury club.
