Golf TITIRANGI WOMEN’S

Miss Grigg Goes

To 21st “The Press’* Special Service AUCKLAND, May 16.

Miss S. Grigg, of Christchurch, battled in pouring rain to the twenty-first hole before losing to another Tasman Cup trialist, Miss Natalie White, of Auckland, in the Titirangi autumn open yesterday. At the twentyfirst hole. Miss Grigg drove out of bounds, and Miss White entered the semi-finals.

Yesterday’s games were vital to Miss Grigg, who is struggling to regain her form and to gain a place* in this year’s Tasman Cup tour of Australia. In the recent South Island section of the Bussell Grace Cup, Miss Grigg was beaten by Miss B. Stafford, of South Canterbury. A week later, in the Rotorua women’s open she lost to Miss White.

Against Miss White, Miss Grigg lost her ball in the middle of the third fairway—probably because children removed it from the dip in which it lay —and then Miss White scored birdies at the eighth and ninth. However, Miss Grigg fought back, and had she not threeputted the fourteenth, could have been square instead of one down as they teed off for the eighteenth. Here Miss White hit into the trees and lost the hole. Miss White hit the trees again at the nineteenth but Miss Grigg threeputtedand the half was gained. The twentieth was halved in bogey fours. The- rain- was so thick that it was hard to see the green from the tee on the long third. But Miss Grigg drove out of bounds to the right on the same hole as she had lost her ball the first time round, and Miss White had won.
