DAIRY FARM PRODUCTION
Inefficiency Of Industry’
IN.Z. Press Association) TAURANGA. May 16.
The average production of New Zealand dairy farms was shocking, said Mr T. W. Steele, chairman of the dairy section of Bay of Plenty Federated Farmers, at the annual meeting in Tauranga today. In his annual report. Mr Steele said there were numerous dairy farms which were capable of doubling production through the application of modern farming practices •
He said ne thought dairy farmers should be very careful in their criticism of secondary industry as there was so much inefficiency in their own industry.
"I a;n inclined to think New Zealand is complacent.” Mr Steele told one of the many members who challenged his remarks “Take the average production of’ a cow in New Zealand at 2801 b butterfat Do you call that efficiency? The average farm in this country could carry much more stock than it does.”
