TOTARA FLAT CATTLE
Good Average For Year
One of the pointers to the market level for fat cattle at Addington this last year has been the prices gained from week to week by steers from McDonnell Bros., of Totara Flat. Of good, even quality, the cattle have consistently been among the top sales.
Since last June, 217 steers have been sold in Addington at an average price of £5O 13s for the 22 consignments. Each truck has shown little variation in price between the individual steers. The highest price received for the steers was £57 7s 6d on June 7 when the market was at a reasonably high level and the lowest price of £45 12s 6d was recorded in December when the market level had receded. It recovered again in late January and the top price for the Totara Flat cattle lifted to over £5O in February. The cattle are bought in as two-and-a-half-year-olds for finishing and most of them have been bought in Canterbury, including several trucks from each of the Molesworth and St. James station annual drafts.
