Otago Hunt To Change Date

The Otago Hunt Club, which raced last month, will hold its next meet.ng in August. The club changed its race date two years ago to March, but bad weather on both occasions has forced the club to revert to its original date Application will be made for a date tn August, the beginning of the new season.

7000gns For Yearling

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY, April 20 Spectators and buyers at Thursday's yearling sales applauded Mr I Caldwell after he paid 7000gns for a Star Kingdom—Persist colt.

The announcement that Mr Caldwell was the buyer came after the most exciting bidding duel of the first three days of the sales. The sale topped the previous best price of 5500gns, paid by Mr W Longworth last Tuesday for a Hidalgo—Golden Chariot colt

Mr Caldwell's record 15.500.gns purchase Columbia Star, was destroyed on Tuesday after a track accident at Randwick The top-priced colt was bred by the Fairways Stud, which also bred Columbia Star.

The stud also submitted four other Star Kingdom youngsters, which were sold for a total of l(l.2oogns. This brought Thursday’s selling of Star Kingdom youngsters to six lots for IgJMgns. an average of 3060gns. The three days’ sales hsve realised 391,3#0g n5. an average of 936jgns for 417 lots The record four-day average was established In 1968. when 177 yearlings were sold for 399.215 g ns an average of 836gns _ Once again the trainer. T J. Smith, is the heaviest buyer of yearlings In three days he has purchased 13 youngsters for a total of 26 960gns
