FOUNDATION FUND
Christchurch Gives £379
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 20. The drive for funds for the Maori Education Foundation had now realised £41,624, the foundation chairman (Mr G. D. Ball) said today. This was in addition to the £250.000 given by the Governmen:. Mr Ball said he was disappointed that the total was not already much greater. Some committees had done well already. Others had prospects of raising considerable sums in the new few weeks. He hoped that all would carry on till they reached their quotas. He said a capital of £2 million was needed. Totals received by committees up to Wednesday night were:— Whangarei, £3500; Auckland, £3376; Hamilton. £1026; Rotorua. £4002; Hastings, £2550; Tauranga, £387; Taumarunui, £3000; New Plymouth. £500; Hawera, £815; Palmerston North. £4595; Whakatane, £4208; Gisborne, £2070; Wanganui, £1710; Masterton, £1365; Wairoa, £1640; Wellington. £1400; Grey mouth, nil; Westport, £25; Nelson. £290; Blenheim, £258; Christchurch, £379; Dunedin, £1250; Invercargill. £ 1278. In addition a sum of £2500 had been paid in directly to headquarters. Mr Ball said the totals rep-, resented money raised since the campaign began on March 26. It did not include money previously raised in those districts.
