“Painted Ocean”
Sir,—May I say bow pleased I was with the excellent review “Hie Press" gave “Painted Ocean.” It is a remarkable book and the author must be a remarkable man. Here at last is a New Zealand author who portravs us as we really are and not with outlandish accents. Here is someone who can write about higit adventure without sounding off personal fanfares. I am also pleased that the high standard ct the printing and binding of “Painted Ocean” is the work of a local publisher. I think Mr Donovan’s letter was justified. Here at last is a publishing house which knows a new literary style when it sees one. Here at last is the product of local brain power that could well help to put Christchurch on the map. It is time appreciations of “Painted Ocean” were expressed in newspaper columns. What a pity it had to start over one mistake on page 137—Yours, etc., , P. April 18, 1962.
