Pukeko
Sir.—ln reply to your “B Consistent” and others. I would like to assure them that the Forest and Bird Protection Society is very concerned with the plight;of the puketao jn North Canterbury, and for some time has been endeavouring to have them removed frern the game list. Although our honorary ranjjttis have been active in gathering data on the incidence of pukeko throughout our district, we would still be pleased to hear from readers who can add further to the information on hand regarding the increase or depletion of the bird in known arees. To the correspondent who asked. "What is the use of the pukeko?” it is enough to answer that it is cue of our unique native birds, and this alone snould be sufficient to ensure its pre. servation for all time. —Yours, etc, I. H. GRAY, Hon. Secretary, Canterbury branch. Forest and Bird Protection Society. April 17. IM2. [This correspondence is now closed. Ed., "The Press.”]
