KNITTING CONTEST
Hornby Woman N.Z. Winner
Mrs B. M. Clinch. Christchurch winner of the peggy square knitting contest held in aid of the Save the Children Fund, has become the. national winner. She has beaten the runner-up. Mrs B Reid, of Auckland, by five rows. Mrs Clinch, a Hornby housewife and mother of four, was presented with a spindry washing machine yesterday As local winner, she had received a fireside chair. Representing the Save the Children Fund at yesterday’s ceremony were the president of the North Canterbury branch (Miss M. G. Havelaar) and a member of the executive (Mrs M. Simes). A message from Mrs Reid, congratulating Mrs Clinch on her success, was read. At the contest held in Christchurch late last month. Mrs Clinch knitted 12 peggv squares, and 41 rows, 27 stitches of the thirteenth square, in four hours.
All the contestants took home their left-over wool to complete squares in their own time for the Save the Children Fund. Several hundred have since been handed in
