Hurdling On Programme

Schooling over hurdles is on Studio’s programme in preparation for the Great Autumn Handicap next Monday. He was tried over the pony hurdles at Riccarton yesterday and jumped cleanly for K. Q. Quayle. Studio was given a fair bit of schooling when he was quartered at Otaki in the spring, and he showed ability over standard hurdles. Studio has good handicap form on his home track, and he could be hard ,to beat in the Great Autumn Handicap if track conditions suit him. He is of little account on winter tracks, but has raced well against the best on firm ground. W. D. Skelton was engaged yesterday to ride Minglow in the Great Autumn Handicap. His younger brother, M. J. Skelton, will probably ride Safe Harbour. A. Trevena, a 20-year-old Melbourne apprentice, arrived at Riccarton from Australia on Tuesday and will ride at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s autumn meeting. Trevena, who has ridden 68 winners in Australia, can ride at 7-9. He is to come out of his apprenticeship later this year. His employer is the Caulfield trainer, R. S. Wallis, who will prepare the good stayer. Quite Able, for important spring races in Melbourne this year.
