Chettle added, he set a magnifimagnificent tour, heading both the batting and bowling averages in the tests. Besides this, Chettle added ,he set a magnificent example both on and off the field, which contributed to the undoubted success of the visits.
Chettle said the tour had produced a number of ‘discoveries ” Motz and Cameron showed tremendous improvement as the tour progressed; Alabaster established himself as one of the present day “greats” in the leg-spinning departments; Barton, the most cultured batsman in the team, showed promise: and Dick was unveiled as New Zealand’s wicketkeeper/batsnan of the future.
