ATHLETES’ SHORTS

“Dangerous Decision” (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. April 18. Delegates to the Auckland Amateur Athletic Centre decided to ask the executive to reconsider its decision to investigate the decency of women athletes’ shorts. The last meeting of the executive had decided to ask clubs for their opinions and also to ask the women’s subcommittee to gain a crosssection of public opinion from spectators. "The executive’s decision was a dangerous one.” said Mr J. McManeminn, “It appears that three girls I train are the offenders. I am taking up the matter on behalf of them. “These short shorts are worn in other centres and the shorts worn by gymnasts are far worse. These girls are there to run. Let them. “These are three of the finest girls in the sport. We don’t want to start crucifying our own athletes.” he said. - The chairman (Mr F. D Sharp): Personally, I feel we are asking for trouble in approaching the public.
