(N.Z. Press Association—Cepyright)

SYDNEY, April 18. Victorian horses overwhelmed the Sydney runners when they took the first three placlngs in the £sobo Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick °Nuarco. the New Zealandbred Marco Khan, and Dhaulagiri showed their superiority by racing away with the rich race over one mile and three-quart-ers at weight-for-age. Nilarco will now make his third attempt to win the £10,500 Sydney Cup, over two miles, at Randwick next Monasiiarco won by threequarters of a length from Marco Khan, with Dnaulaglri four lengths away third. Nilarco carried 9-3 today, but drops to 8-10 in the Sydney Cup. He cannot be penalised. T. Hill, who rode Nilarco today, will be the Sydney Cup rider Nilarco took 3min 3 l-ssec for the mile and three-quarters today, compared with the Australian and Randwick record of 2min 55see.

Lobbing along at his ease tn second last place, Nilarco seemed to enjoy racing the reverse way on the yielding track. Dhaulagiri was not racing well, and was hanging most of die way. Marco Khan straightened up clear of Lord Fury, Dhaulagiri and Nilarco, and It looked as if he was going to hold on to win.

Nilarco, moving up stylishly on the outside, dived in and Hill had to stop riding him to straighten him up. He challenged Marco Khan at the halffurlong, but once again he dived in.

Marco Khan drops from 8-4 to 7-7 in the Sydney Cup. On today's run Dhaulagiri looks hopeless in the Sydney Cup. He does not race kindly in the reverse direction. The Sydney colt, Bogan Road, firmly established himself as Australia’s best two-year-oid when he scored a dashing win in the Champagne Stakes at Randwick this afternoon. His rider, A. Gallagher, allowed him plenty of time to settle down and at the turn into the straight he moved into fourth place Grammar Lad tried hard to win, but settled for second place after the jockey. D. Weir, perhaps made the mistake of not using the colt's early speed as he restrained him behind Jan’s Image. The Golden Slipper Stakes winner, Birthday Card, was third. .
