DRILLING STOPPED

Ruakituri Well Abandoned (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 18. “It has been decided to discontinue drilling operations at our Ruakituri No. I well on the East C-ast." the ciairrran of directors of B.P - Shell-Todd Petroleum Development. Ltd. (Mr L. G. Husks) said today. The well had been drilled and cored to a depth of 905 ft. Lt was now considered that further drilling would be b;th fruitless and uneconomic. Routine testing operations would now be started, after which the rig and equipment would be dismantled and ovetaauled. Mir Hucks said geological survey parties were continuing their work in the Gisborne-Hawke’s Bay area, and the seismic party at pres, ent working inland from Napier was expected to complete its Hawke’s Bay geophysical programme by the middle of next mon tn. A detailed appraisal was now being made of the information gained by the company's exploratory werk on the East Coast to determine the location of any further test well in that area.
