HEAD OF N.B.C.
Mr Stringer Appointed (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 18. The appointment of Mr G. H. Stringer as DirectorGeneral of Broadcasting was announced today by the chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation (Dr. F. J. Llewellyn). Mr Stringer was appointed for five years. He was director in succession to Mr J. H. E. Schroder who retired at the end of last year and since April 1 has been director-general on an interim basis. Dr. Llewellyn said: “At our first meeting a few weeks ago my colleagues and I gave thought to the choice of an executive head to carry out tiie policies of the corporation. To ensure continuity and stability of administrative control it was desirable that this question be settled as soon as possible after we took office. In the light of inquiries made in New Zealand and overseas the corporation unanimously decided to recommend the appointment of Mr Stringer.” The appointment was made by the GovernorGeneral in Council on the recommendation of the cor-
poration. Dr. Llewellyn said that Mr Stringer was familiar with New Zealand conditions and problems including the unified nature of our dual commercial and non-oommercial radio and television systems. He had a wealth of knowledge and experience built up during nearly 20 years in broadcasting. His background and qualifications were well-known and information and comment received from many quarters amply demonstrated to the corporation the extremely high standing in which Mr Stringer was held both in New Zealand and overseas, said the announcement.
