BULGING WINDOWS
“No Danger In Building” (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. April 18 The Wellington City Council was satisfied there was no danger to the public or the occupants of the Featherston street building where plate-glass windows bulged and were deliberately broken yesterday, said- the city engineer (Mr F. B. C Jeffreys) He said there had been conferences among the council's building supervisor and representatives of tne affected building and a nearby building under construction Checks and tests made today of the building under constructior had revealed no evidence of settlement or movement, Mr Jeffreys said The cause of the bowing out of trie windows in the other building had not been conclusively determined, but it was thought it might be caused by tidal action. There had been a similar occurrence in the building last December, with replacement of a window There was nothing defective or out of plumb, said a spokesman far the architects acting for the affected building. Cases of plate-glass windows needing replacement were quite frequent. Had it not been for the need to break the windows yesterday the event would have gone unnoticed He said that the pressures and shrinkages in the area were under constant observation and there was no danger involved.
