CARRIAGE OF COAL
Discussion On Freight Rate (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 18. The effect of increased freight charges would be studied by the coal industry, said the head of David Uoyd, Ltd., Mr C. M. Richwhite, today, after he had spent two hours discussing with the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) the problems facing the industry through increased freight charges. For part of the interview the Minister of Mines (Mr Shand) was also present
With Mr Richwhite was another director of David Uoyd, Ltd.. Mr A. S. Andrews. With the Ministers •were the Under-Secretary for Mines (Mr P. M. Outhwaite), the chief sales manager of the Mines Department (Mr R. Richmond), and the commercial manager of the Railways Department (Mr I. Thomas). Messrs Richwhite and Andrews refused to comment further when they left the Minister’s office. Mr Richwhite said that Mr McAlpine was sympathetic towards the problem of finding continued outlets for coaL and fully appreciated the position in which the industry could be placed.
