SECRETARIES FROM U.S.
“Status Symbol” In London (Special Crspdt N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, April 17 The one-way traffic of British secretaries to jobs in the United States has been converted into a two-way affair as the result of the appearance on American television of Miss Margery Hurst, who runs an employment agency in London.
Since then. scores of American secretaries have been inquiring about prospects in Britain “American girls might veil become the status symbol in England." said Miss Hurst “I can guarantee a great demand for them In New York, tor instance, the very least a secretary expects to earn is £35 a week, but the girls have been told about the lower wages here, and I think they take the view that any sacrifice they might make is a small price to pay for the adventure of a working holiday”
