15 CANTERBURY PLAYERS NOMINATED FOR TRIALS
The Canterbury Rugby selectors (Messrs P. K. Rhind and P. B. Vincent) have nominated 15 players for the All Black trials at Timaru on May 2. Six backs and nine forwards have been named. The nominations are:— W. F. McCormick (Linwood), full-back; P. J. Morrissey (Old Boys), wing; D. A. Arnold (Christchurch), centre or second five-eighths; R. C. Moreton (University), second five-eighths; B. A. Watt (Christchurch), first five-eighths; M. F. Whitta (Sydenham), half-back; D Young (Shirley), hooker; J. N. Creighton (University), hooker: K. J. O’Shannessy (Marist), prop o'r utility forward; J. M. Le Lievre (Country), prop; M. W. Allen (University), prop; R. Abe! (Linwood). lock; A. J Stewart (University), lock; D. J. Graham (Old Boys), flanker; R. Wainohu (Christchurch), flanker or No. 8. P. G. Bark (University) was not available.
The only surprise is the choice of Wainohu ahead of the University loose forwards. B. R. Smither and T. H. Moynihan. The selectors have seen only two games this season, and. the players' form of last year must have been a major consideration in selection. An exception would be the former Southland back.
Moreton; but Mr Vincent must have been impressed by Moreton in the CantabriansUniversities game two weeks ago and in the Marist-Univer-sity game last Saturday.
Two hookers have been included, Young and Creighton; O’Shannessy. who hooks for Marist. has been nominated as a prop or utility forward.
