Record Price For Filly At Sales In Sydney

SYDNEY, April 17. An Australian record price for a filly, 4600 guineas, was paid by the Randwick trainer, F. Allsop, for the sister to Indian Summer, at the Sydney yearling sales today. She is by the successful sire. Edmundo, from Condensor. Allsop bought her for Mr Hughesdon, of the Dusborough Stud, Surrey, England. She will be trained by Allsop before going to the stud in England. Tne previous record for a filly was 4500 guineas. Competition was keen, although the filly still was showing the effects of a recent accident in her box. She sustained a knock on her off-eye, and also on the offhind leg. The auctioneer, Mr J. Inglis, said the filly had been inspected by veterinary surgeons and passed. Four fillies by Edmundo realised 10.900 guineas, an average of 2725 guineas. The trainer, T. J. Smith, who spent 16,800 guineas on seven youngsters yesterday, bought the filly, out of Tea Cosy, for 2100 guineas. A brother to the Doncaster Handicap fancy, Prince Regoli,’ bred at the Brooklyn Lodge Stud, was secured by Mr J. Driscoll for 3400 guineas. The Sydney Turf Club chairman, Mr W. Longworth, paid 5500 guineas for a halfbrother to Wenona Girl and Grammar Lad. This is the

highest price at this year’s sales. The colt is by the new imported sire, Hildalgo, from Golden Chariot. At the yearling sales last year. Mr Longworth paid the top price of 6500 guineas for Grammar Lad. which is by Wilkes. The opening bid today was 2000 guineas and the price did not take long to reach 5500 guineas.
