FALL FROM POLE

Man Touches Live Wire

A man suffered an electric shock and fell 16ft from a power pole when he touched a live wire on the pole in Rangiora at 1.30 p.m. yesterday. With another man, also injured in the accident, he was discharged from Rangiora Hospital last evening after both had been admitted for observation. The accident occurred when Mr Norman Anderson, a linesman, was removing some old wires belonging to the Rangiora Borough Council. He was thrown from an elevated platform on the pole on to a wire stay, on to the tray of a truck and then to the ground. Mr Darwin Davidson, a lines foreman, who went to help Mr Anderson, was also injured. He is not sure whether he suffered an electric shock when Mr Anderson fell on him. Tiie borough electrical engineer (Mr D W King) said an inquiry after the accident had not established how the old line was “live.” Investigations were continuing Both the injured men are employed by the North Canterbury Electric-power Board
