WHANGAREI REFINERY
Contract Let To U.K. Firm (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, April 17. Mr J. Carney, general manager of the New Zealand Refinery Company, Ltd., announced in Wellington today that the main contract for the construction of the oil refinery at Marsden Point, Whangarei, had been awarded to Bechtel International, Ltd., of London. The refinery should be in operation by March. 1964. Construction will commence in August this year. Bechtel International will form a New Zealand company to be known as Bechtel-Fletcher-Wimpy. For the project, the Fletcher Construction Company will be actively associated with the overseas companies.
