HURRICANE DAMAGE
Grant To Cook Islands (NT. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 17. A Government grant of £ 4000 towards the cost of alleviating hardship and food shortages caused by hurricanes in the Cook Islands last February has been announced by the Minister of Is’and Territories (Mr Gott) Houses were testrovec or damaged on Aitutiki, Mauke Atiu, and Palmerston Islands school buildings .r Aitutaki Mauka and Mitlaro and buildings belonging to the Administration and Roman Catholic Church »r- Mauke Food crops were also damaged The nod supply is considered to n« adequate for the time being; but it is possible that damage by wind and water may cause *'rops to rot in the ground The food supply was oeing carefuhy watered and measures would be taken if necessary, said Mr Gotz.
