2.9 in In 24 Honrs By 9 a.m. yesterday 2.9 in of rain had fallen in Christchurch during the previous 24 hours. But little rain was recorded in Christchurch yesterday and it was fine in many country areas of Canterbury. The temperature rose from 40deg early yesterday morning to a steady 47-48 deg during the day. After Sunday night’s fierce gusts of wind, recorded at Christchurch Airport up to 55 knots at 6.50 a.m., yesterday, the southerly wind gradually fell. There were frequent gusts of 45 knots and the last powerful blow was about 1 p.m. yesterday. The depression which caused the southerly and south-westerly air flow continued to move to the southeast.
