FIRE IN BACH
Father Saves Daughters (N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, Aj>ril 16. A father of 12 children, Mr P. Howearth. last night saved four of his children sleeping in a bach adjacent to his farmhouse at Mamamites from DargaThe bach was destroyed by Are. Damage is estimated at about £l5OO. The fire was first observed 16-year-ol'd Jeanette How-earth just before midmght She immediately woke her father who rushed to the bach. Unable to get inrough the bach door because of flames, Mr Howearth gained access through the window.
Another of his daughters, Ma-rcia, aged 9, had woken up and was about to raise the- alarm. Mr Howearth moved her away from the jaach, and pulled out Lynnette. aged 8. Gloria, aged aged 3. witnin minutes the bach was completely alight.
