EXPORTS OF CHEESE
Reply To Mr Stock INZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 16. When Mr G E Stock, president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, commented on New Zealand's ex. port cheese on Friday, he showed he did not know what he was talking about, said the Dairy Industry Information Service today At the Associated Chamber of Commerce conference at New’ Plymouth. Mr Stock said that “we have probably the best cheese in the world and we export mouse-trap cheese.”
“The facts are that New Zealand's cheese quality is generally hifeu and that around 80.000 tons of the best of it is annually exported to Hie United Kingdom.” said the statement. “For some years it has been selling at around £230 a ton—a premium pric’. At the present time it is bringing £lO a ton more there than the best quality Australian Cheddar. “The facts. therefore, make nonsense ot Mr Stock’s final comment ‘I wish the Dairy Board would get off their tails about this matter I’m convinced we haven’t really started exporting our best cheese”’ The statement added: “In future it would be better for Mr Stock, and the organisation of which he is president if he took the trouble to check his facts beforehand.”
