U.K. Soccer Results Burnley Loses, Ipswich Goes To Top

(N Z P. A.-Reuter— Copyright) LONDON, April 14. Burnley, seeking to emulate Tottenham Hotspur’s English Soccer Cup and League double, faltered badly when it was beaten. 3-1, at home by Manchester United in the First Division today. Defeat cost the club the lead in a fluctuating League battie to Ipswich Town, which scored a 1-0 win over Cardiff City. The position at the head of the table was: Ipswich, 50 points from 38 games; Burnley 49 from 36 games. Tottenham did not play today. Having reached the cup final by beating Fulham in last Monday's replay, Burnley was expected to beat Manchester United, but never recovered from a thirty-ninth minute goal by Manchester. The lead was increased with a penalty after the interval and though Burnley scored. United added the third two minutes from time. A goal in the twenty-fourth minute took Ipswich back to the top. but Cardiff’s defeat, and Chelsea’s 4-0 beating at West Bromwich, has given the bottom of the division a different look.
