LAND SPEED RECORD
No Utah Bid By Campbell (N .Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS, (Utah), April 15. Donald Campbell will not be able to use Bonneville Salt Flats for an attempt on the land speed record this year.
The 11-mile course is too short, according to a representative of the British industries involved in the production of Campbell’s turbo-jet-powered Bluebird, Mr J Phillips. Campbell visited Australia late last year and inspected the dry bed of Lake Eyre as a possible site for his attempt on the record. Officials of the Bonneville Speedway Association, who visited the Utah course with Mr Phillips, said the north end was in the best condition tor the last six years, but it had not healed sufficiently to extend the coume.
