The Economy
Sir, —Tom Bryoe tries unsuccessfully to defend Labour’s Black Budget. Would Mr Bryce say why young people buying their own homes should subsidise the rents of State house tenants, particularly when some of them own palatial seaside residences and motor launches, or why people using buses should subsidise those who use the rail services? In one of the Labour seoret agreements they agreed that overseas shareholders in a certain New Zealand cable factory should receive 15 per cent, interest on capital. No wonder telephone charges increased! As for postage charges, it still costs the private individual 3d to post a letter. Perhaps Mr Bryce could tell us why the Labour Government failed to honour the rulingrate survey set up to protect and give equality to public servants. Labour has no regard for this hardworking section of the community, but they do receive protection under National. — Yours, etc.. ONCE BITTEN. April 13, 1962.
