Debutantes Presented At Old Students' Ball
Five debutantes were presented at the Papanui High School Old Students' Association ball, held at the Winter Garden on Saturday evening. They were .Misses Joyce Annett. Beverly Bain. Valda Hickey, Janet Murray and Rosemarie Russell. The debutantes were presented to Mrs L. B. Newton, wife of the principal of the school by Mrs J. Dodgson, vice-president of the association. Mrs G. H. Reynolds had trained them for the ceremony Wearing full-sk:rted white ball gowns the girls carried pastel shaded posies, the gift of the association. The posies had been made by an old girl of the school. Mrs B Utreridge. and were presented to the debutantes by Miss M. T. Roper, headmistress of the school.
Specially invited guests included the following.—Mr and Mrs L. B Newton: Miss M. T Roper: Dr. and Mrs C D Eliyett representing the school's board of governors: Mr and Mrs E. L. Tinker, representing the school par-ent-teacher association; Miss A. W Hall, and Mr J M Thomasson, former teachers of the school: Mr and Mrs C E. Carleton, members of the staff, and representatives of Christchurch West Old Girls' and Christchurch West Old Boys' Associations, Rangiora High School and Linwood High School Old Students'
Associations. Mrs Newton chose a gown of fuchsia pink moire taffeta made with fitting. V-necked top and full skirt with deep back pleating. Mrs A. Voice, wife of the president of the association, wore a frock of red delustered satin featuring a boater neckline and hyaway panelled skirt. Mrs Reynold's gown of midnight blue lace over net and taffeta had a wide neckline and a scalloped-flounce hemline Mrs Dodgson chose a peacock blue satin brocade frock made with Atting bodice and deep pleated skirt swathed across the waist A floral replica of the school monogram was prominently placed in the entrance hall The lounge and ballroom were decorated with ferns, potted plants and hanging baskets of flowers.
