NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA
Thirteen Players From City
Thirteen young persons from Christchurch have been selected as members of the 1982 National Youth Orchestra.
The orchestra, of 94, will assemble in Wellington in Maj' for a week’s rehearsals and will give two public concerts in Christchurch at the Civic Theatre on August 30 and 31. The conductor will be Mr John Hopkins, conductor of the National Orchestra. Rehearsals will be taken by Mr Ashley Heenan, musical assistant to the conductor, and Mr W. H. Walden Mills, musical adviser to schools, and coaching given by principals of the National Orchestra. The leader will be Michael Mclntyre, of Dunedin. The Christchurch members will be: violins, Kathryn Evans (,St. Martins), Malcolm Mackie (Riccarton), Robin Perks (Sumner); 'cellos, Brian Sandle (New Brighton), Mary Williams (Papanui); bass, Gerald Newson (Huntsbury Hill); flute, Helen Colthart (Linwood); clarinet, Roland Sussex (Fendalton), Pauline Drain (Papanui); oboe, Brian McCahon (Papanui), Keith Sayers (Burwood); trombone, Ronald Adams (Linwood); tuba. Errol Slinn (Papanui).
