YACHTING M. And B. Sinclair Win 10-Mile Harbour Race
The annual 10-miles harbour race for the Charteris Bay Cup was sailed on Saturday and was won by the Junior Cherub yacht Slipaway, sailed byM. Sinclair and his younger brother, B. Sinclair. Only seven boats of a fleet of 19 crossed the finish line; the rest were ordered by rescue craft back to their moorings at Charteris Bay when a southerly squall appeared and made conditions hazardous.
The performance of the Sinclair brothers in leading the fleet home after a Mark Foy start was a good one. Close at their heels in a skimmer was R. Coultas. The Olympic Finn class section was led in by R. A. H. Drayton whose achievement in taking more than two minutes out of the capable and more experienced young Waimakariri skipper, G’. D. Hobson, was noteworthy. Drayton, off the same mark, also headed by half a minute D. H. Borrell who had performed well in competition with members of the national representative sailing team at Lyttelton the week-end before. Results were:— ’ Slipaway (M. and B. Sinclair], 48min, 3:52.43, 1; Topaz (R. Coultas), 50mln, 3.52.56, 2; Finesse (R. A. H. Drayton). 25 min, 4.6.47, 3; Hyphen (D. H. Borrell), 25min, 4:7.15, 4; Fintere (G. D. tion on handicap. Results of the P Class racing were as follows: Senior Division.—Puck (D. Brandt), 2.smin. 2:19.52, 1; Magic (R. Neale), scr, 2:20.26, 2; Noddy (Miss S. Currie), 3min, 2:20.36, 3.
