DRAINAGE BOARD LOAN
Residents May Object ' An objection to the Christchurch Drainage Board’s proposal to raise a £150,000 loan for a new office building may be lodged with the Local Authorities Loans Board by Residents* Affiliated. The objection will be made if delegates from residents' organisations in unsewered areas agree to making the objection.
The president of Residents’ Affiliated (Mr B. H. Paton) said this in a statement at the week-end when commenting on the intention of the board chairman (Mr F. R. Price) to make a full statement on the loan at the meeting tomorrow. If an objection is made, the Loans Board will be asked to exercise its powers and direct that a loan poll be held on the issue.
Sulphur Cargo.— One of the largest bulk sulphur cargoes to the port arrived at Lyttelton on Saturday. This 4475 ton shipment, brought by the Wavebank, was loaded in a Mexican Gulf port. The same company’s vessel, the Minchbank, arrived on Friday from Makatea with bulk phosphate for discharge Both cargoes will .go to Hornby.
