W.E.A. FIELD TRIP
Party Visits Mt. Somers Thirty-five members of the Workers’ | Education Association field club visited mineral workings and orocessing plants at Mount Somers at the week-end. The party, led by a prospector, Mr W. F. Heinz, left Christchurch by bus early on Saturday and first visited a limestone quarry on Chapman Creek. A tour was made about the workings of Burnett’s coalmine. The Stour riverbed was examined for agate and a visit made to a silica sand mine, the formations and structure of which were explained by Mr Heinz. This was the first field trip conducted by the club this season. They are generally held monthly. The next will be on May 12. to Pigeon Bay. for study of Maori history.
