JEWELLERS' SEMINAR
“Trade Losing Ground”
Jewellers agree that their trade is steadily losing ground to department and hardware stores, ssys Mr W. Sharp, Chairman of the Can-terbury-Wegtland branch of the Jewellers’ Association of New Zealand, in a circular advising members of a weekend seminar to be held in Christchurch on May 12 and 13.
For the jeweller to maintain )iis position, he must bring his merchandising and follins techniques into line with the latest trends and equip himself and his staff with the fullest expert knowledge of the merchandise being handled, says Mr Sharp. The seminar, organised by the Canterbury - Westland branch, will provide a training and refresher course for jewellers and their staffs from all parts of New Zealand.
Lectures will be given on selling, on shop and window display, on precious metals and gems, and on the trouble diagnosis, spot adjustment and sale of watches. The seminar will be the second of . its kind. The first was held in Palmerston North last year.
