ROUTINE AT HOSPITAL

Changes Being Considered

The trial period for the new routine in three wards of the Christchurch Hospital had now ended, and a favourable report had been considered by the North Canterbury Hospital Board’s institutions committee, the board secretary (Mr J. G. Laurenson) said yesterday. On the basis of the report, investigations were being made into the implications of introducing the new routine into the rest of the hospital and into the Princess Margaret and Burwood Hospitals. The new routine provides for much extended daily visiting hours and for a later start to the patients’ day. “The success of the new routine in the Christchurch Hospital wards does not necessarily mean that it would be equally successful at the other major hospitals.” said Mr Laurenson. “A change such as that contemplated would affect every branch of the hospital concerned. “Reports on the likely effects of such a change in the various hospitals are to be made to next month’s meeting of the institutions committee, and if the committee feels it has enough information, it will no doubt make an appropriate recommendation to the board.”
