MR L. J. COLLINS The death has occurred at Waimate of Mr Llewellyn John Collins, M.8.E., aged 61. Mr Collins was prominently' associated with several civic and educational organisations and for about 40 years was engaged in local body work. Born in Temuka, he was educated at the Temuka District High School. For more than 30 years he was county clerk and treasurer for the Waimate County Council. Mr Collins was prominent in the formation of the Waimate Automobile Association Club in 1927. and was a pastpresident and secretary. He was a past-president of the New Zealand Institute of County Clerks and a former chairman of the Patriotic Welfare Committee of his district. Mr Collins had also been a member of the executive of the Waimate Historical Society and a member of the Waimate High School’s board of governors.

MR T. GILCHRIST

(A.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 13. Mr Thomas Gilchrist, who was well known in the Highland pipe band movement in New Zealand, died in Dunedin recently He was 87. Mr Gilchrist was associated with the Dunedin Highland Pipe Band for more than 60 years, for two years as bass drummer and for the next 30 years as drum major. He was secretary of the band from 1927 until 1937 and patron for the last five years.

Mr Gilchrist was one of the founders of the Highland Pipe Bands’ Association, of which he was a life member He also served as president of the Otago centre of the parent association. Mr Gilchrist, who celebrated his sixtieth wedding anniversary in 1960. is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter.

The death has occurred in Dunedin of Mr R. Bennett, a former Alhambra Otago South Island and New Zealand representative Rugby plaver He was 82. Mr Bennett represented ’ago o.i 37 occasions from 1899 to 1911, played for the South Island in 1904, and represented New' Zealand in 1905.
