Rifle Shooting TEAM FOR PERTH

Five “New” Members ( N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. March 27. The names of members of the New Zealand rifle team to take part in the Australian Rifle Championships and the Empire match to be held at Perth. Western Australia, tn November of this year, were announced last night The team includes five riflemen who have not previously represented New Zealand overseas, the remainder being members of the successful team which vtsited Bisley and Canada In 1960.

In addition to the team captain (T. S. Prichard, of Karori) and the team adjutant (J. Q Donald, of Featherston) the 1962 New Zealand representatives are :

I. R. Ballinger, Christchurch, Staff-Sergeant I. G. Campbell Auckland; Flight Sergeent D. J. Caughley. R.N Z.A.F., Ohakea; A. Churcher. Fetiding; M G. Gordon. Hastings; R. G Gurney. Paraparaumu; J. W. Johnston Featherston; J. T. Petersen Eketahuna (runner-up. Queen's. 1962); N. C. Petersen. Foxton Beach (Queen's belt winner. 1962); M. T. Reid, Upper Hutt: T. N. Sutherland. Martinborough: H. F. Tattersfleld. Karori; C. Thom, Christchurch; Sergeant D 3 Whiteman. V; per Hutt.

J. T. Petersen, of the Alfredtan club. Eketahuna. holds the Commonwealth record with a

score of 198 tn the Empire match shot at Trentham in 1961.

N. C. Petersen, a farm manager of Foxton, won the 1962 Queen’s Prize at Trentham last month, and his brother. J. T. Petersen, was a close third. The runner-up was M. G- Gordon, of Hastings.

Members of the team, who will wear the New Zealand blazer overseas for the fin.t time, are: L R Ballinger. J Q. Donald. R G. Gurney, M. H. Reid and D. E. Whiteman.

The Australian Commonwealth series of matches this year will take place at the Swanbourne range. Perth, during the period November 12 to 21 immediately before the Empire Games. The Empire match, won by New Zealand for the first time in 1961. will take place on November 21
