Cricket BRIDGETOWN TEST

W. Indies “Out Of Character” (N .Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BRIDGETOWN (Barbados), March 27. The West Indies, intent on building up a big first innings lead in the third test, played utterly out of character yesterday by allowing itself to be bogged down by India’s slow bowlers. The West Indies scored only 164 runs in five hours and a half to reach 427 for eight wickets by the close, in reply to India’s 258. India’s spinners were extremely accurate on the slowpaced pitch, but even so there seemed little excuse for much of the dreary cricket F. Worrell, one of cricket’s finest stroke-makers, spent one hour and a half over his first eight runs, and in the next two hours added only a further 27. At the close, he was unbeaten with 64 after a display he will not wish to remember.

Worrell joined J. Solomon after the cheap dismissal of night-watchman L. Gibbs, and they added 96 in three hours and a quarter before Solomon was sixth out at 378, four short of a century. Scores: INDIA First Innings .. .. 258 WEST INDIES
