Hockey SENIOR GAMES
Two Divisions This Season
The Canterbury Hockey Association has adopted a new policy for senior matches in the coming season. At the conclusion of two rounds the eight teams in the senior competition will be split into two divisions—one to play tor the championship, and the other to piny for a trophy given for the purpose. This was decided at the annual general meeting of the association last evening. The motion, put forward by Mr P. Clark, stemmed from an apparent lack of interest in the latter stages of last season, when three Saturdays of knockout matches were played. Mr Clark said these matches had not been a particularly successful end to the season, and that the Saturdays could be put to far more use if the championship was at stake. The competition matches this year will start on April 28. Officers elected were:— Patron, Mr E. M. Cummins; president. Mr G. D. Redd; vice-presidents. Messrs E. D. Bennett, B. Lloyd. B. Murray, and N. Hocking; honorary auditor. Mr R. Good;
management committee, Messrs R. Harris. T. Eggleton. E. Pullan, A. S. Wells, E. Jackson, R Thomson, K. Thomson B. Wadman, and P. Ives; delegates to New Zealand Hockey Association. Messrs R. Armstrong. R. Milne, W. H. Down, E. D. Bennett,' M. R. Good, G. D. Reid, J. G. Leggat, and E. Jackson.
The secretary and treasurer are to be appointed by the incoming committee. Early in the evening, four Canterbury players who had represented New Zealand at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 were presented with Olympic Certificates. These players were: J. C. Abrams. N. H. Hobson. R. J. Gillespie, and N. McKinnon.
