The Dominion Federation of School Committees’ Associations, considers that the Government, in its endeavours to solve the problem of the present shortage of teachers, should keep the quality of teachers in the forefront of the problem by: Raising the minimum academic qualifications for entry to training to university entrance. (It is now school certificate).
Increasing the period of initial teacher training to at least four years. Expanding the in-service training of teachers.
Giving appropriate courses of -.instruction to teachers about- to take up positions of responsibility.
Making available study and travel grants after about 10 years’ service.
Improving housing and or her conditions of service. Making greater efforts in all directions to reduce the size of classes in schools.
The points were adopted unanimously by the federation yesterday at its annual conference, and will be referred to the Government
