Selwyn Huts Road
Sir,—The reply given by the Springs County Clerk to “DustbowTs” complaint regarding the condition of the road between the Upper and Lower Selwyn Huts was little short of amazing. If the council does not recognise it as a legal road, under what pretext does it have the temerity to extract rates from the hut-owners who are obliged to use the road to occupy their huts on Crown tend in the vicinity? The very fact that the council grades the road at odd times indicates that it accepts some degree of responsibility for its maintenance. In view of the increase in the volume of traffic using the road, and the apparent lack of interest on the part of the council your correspondent would no doubt be well advised to communicate with the Commissioner of Crown Lands to have the responsibility for maintenance resolved for good.—Yours, etc.. A “YUZA." March 6. 1962.
