FAMILY LIFE
“Firm Foundation Of Society” Social problems facing society were discussed by the Dominion president of the League of Mothers (Mrs W. Grant) at a meeting recently at Waimate. Mrs Grant emphasised the part mothers could play in dispelling these problems and helping in reestablishing family life as the firm foundation of society. There was a great need to extend friendship and tolerance in the world, extending this influence to countries beyond our own, she said. Sixty members of the Christchurch branches, Canterbury provincial officers, and representatives of the Timaru and Oamaru branches attended the meeting. Dominion officers present from Christchurch were Mrs Grant, the Dominion secretary (Mrs H. C. L. Pruden) and the Dominion treasurer (Mrs G. M. Martin). They were welcomed by the deputy-Mayoress of Waimate (Mrs G. R. Watters). The provincial president (Mrs W. H. Harvey) presided. Vocal items were given by Mrs J. A. MacPherson (Studholme) and a combined choir of Christchurch members conducted by Mrs P. V 7. Vinnell.
