S.C. For Three Years Work

School Certificate should be awarded to all pupils who have completed three years’ satisfactory work at postprimary level, says one of the remits to be presented to the Dominion Federation of School Committees' Associations of New Zealand which will hold its twenty-fifth national conference in Christchurch from today until Monday. This remit, which comes from the Mid-Canterbury association, says that the certificate might also note if a pupil had passed the outside examination and mention could also be made of any subject in which the pupil had gained the required marks.

The association says that the change would mean that a pupil would deceive a just reward for three years’ work at the post-primary level. It would also mean that schools would become responsible for their own standards whereas the present standard was set by an outside examiner.

Another advantage would be that although a pupil did not pass in all subjects, he or she would be given credit for the subjects which were passed.
