TRAFFIC WORK AT SPORTS
Payment May Be Asked (N.Z. Press Association! AUCKLAND, Mar. 7. The Mayor of Mount Albert, Mr F. G. Turner, at the Municipal Association conference today, asked that the Municipal Corporations’ Act be amended to allow local bodies to charge sports promoters for traffic control at major meetings. Most of these fixtures were held at nights or week-ends, when it was necessary to pay overtime rates and employ extra traffic control staff, said Mr Turner. Hie Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) said the conference should not be too hasty. Big sporting attractions brought large crowds and a lot of money was spent by visitors. The conference approved an amendment asking the association executive to report on traffic control charges.
