Tour Of City Hospitals The Minister of Health and Social Security (Mr McKay) said yesterday his association with hospitals dated back 79 years. Mr McKay is on a three-day visit to Christchurch, making a tour of hospitals and other institutions. He had always had an interest , in hospitals because, for the last 79 years, there had always been a member of his family on a hospital board of some sort, said Mr McKay. Mr McKay said he wanted to become familiar with every problem confronting hospitals today. The capital spending programme and bed occupancy were the types of problem with which he must become familiar. Yesterday the Minister toured Coronation, Princess Margaret. Christchurch, Burwood and Essex Hospitals. He was accompanied by the Director of Hospitals (Dr. C. A. Taylor), a private secretary (Mr B. E. Mangos) and Mrs McKay. The chairman' of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Dr. L. C. L. Averill), the secretary (Mr J. G. Laurenson), and other officers and members of toe board were also present. Today, the minister will visit the district offices of the Child Welfare. Social Security and Health Departments before returning to Wellington.
