Chess GOOD WIN FOR WALPOLE

L. J. Walpole, returning to tournament chess after some time in retirement, had a good win over A. S. Hollander when the first round of the Canterbury Chess Club’s 1962 championships opened this week. All the other seniorgrade games were adjourned The intermediate and junior tournaments have been combined for the first round. The division between the two tournaments will be made after the round, and a second round played separately in each grade. Results were:— Senior —L. J. Walpole 1, A. S. Hollander 0.
