WINGATUI JUMPERS

Gay Mood In Good School "Th# Praaa" Special Service DUNEDIN, March T. Gay Mood and Arctic Star showed that they were well forward for the Otago Hunt Cup Steeplechase, the feature jumping event at the Otago Hunt meeting on Saturday, when they schooled in a most attractive manner at Wlngatui this morning. They were accompanied throughout an eight-fence school on the steeplechase course by Port Lanyard, which also jumped well but did not appear to be as forward as his companions. Arctic Star (J. D. Pankhurst) set a solid pace, leading Port Lanyard (R. O. Cairns), with Gay Mood (B. P. Kennedy) drifting to the rear. After passing the water jump. Gay Mood moved up to the leaders and appeared to be galloping easily to finish on terms with Arctic Star, clear of Port Lanyard. Gay Mood has had three races on the flat in a fresh preparation and he may prove to be the most seasoned candidate for the Hunt Cup. Prince Ermine (R. O. Cairns) also schooled well later in the morning with four other jumpers. He was sore when he pulled up, but his owner-trainer, H. A. Anderton, was not concerned. He has a slight infection in a fetlock, which is not likely to affect him. Paper Clip advanced In favour for the B. S. Irwin Steeplechase. the two-mile event for amateur riders, when he gave a bright display of jumping this morning. Ridden by his race riejer. K. Gazzard. Paper Clip disputed a strong pace throughout a school over eight fences on the steeplechase course and did not appear to be extended to finish in line with Red Chief (R. Race). Grand Monarch, ridden by his race rider, S. Diack, gained a qualification ticket to start in the Seaview Hack Hurdles, when he gave a better display than El Toro over six hurdles. El Toro crashed through the second flight. His rider. B. Kelly was not injured and was able to ride later in the morning El Toro was remounted by T McCutcheon, and although he pulled hard, he completed another six fences safely. One Enclosure At Riccarton The outside enclosure has passed from the scene at Riccarton. There will be one enclosure at future race meetings, and one charge—--ss. In the past the charge for the inside enclosure was 7s and 2s for the outside.
