Husk Easily Wins High-Weight Race

"The Press” Special Service

NEW PLYMOUTH, Mar. 7. Husk won the Waitara High-weight, first leg of the on-course double, easily at New Plymouth today, after getting the trail from Splice most of the way. Trueali, On Stage, Twopence, The Cinder, and Ajouter were best placed with a mile to run, but approaching the half-mile there was little more than half a dozen lengths between first and last. Husk took over running into the turn and he strode away to win by four lengths from. Barta Boy, which had a length on On Stage. Grecian Belle weakened to fourth and Trueali and Splicd were practically in line Palento and The Cinder did best of the others. Husk was having his first start in the colours of J. L. Muir, who bought him last Saturday at Hawera. Blissful Lad got the better of Hearth Money, which ran very wide at the turn, and the pace-making Lady in Blue in the Ngamotu Juvenile. Lady in Blue led past the half-mile, where Equality had worked up to be second. Hearth Money. My Surprise, Blissful Lad. Benze. and Valeria were handy. Blissful Lad ran up to Lady in Blue once they bad straightened and Hearth Money lost ground by running well towards the outer rail. It looked as if Hearth Money might make up the ground, but in the last halffurlong, Blissful Lad comfortably held her off to win by three-quarters of a length. Lady in Blue was third two lengths back, and then came Super Time, Equality and Superior Pal. NOVICE RACE Purserette stretched out the field in the first couple of furlongs of the Moturoa Trial when Holland pushed her along to be two lengths clear of Gold Spin, with Wunda Weave, Great Hope, Teleflight, Miss Speeder, and Connie Francis following. Purserette was under pressure soon after turning for home, where Gold Spin was looming up. and Wunda Weave and Connie Francis were challenging. Connie Francis finished fast in the middle of the track to run down Gold Spin and Teleflight. Great Hope beat the tiring Purserette, and Wunda Weave and Technique led in the others. The hot favourite, Ross, lasted long enough to take the Pukekura Trial from Maskour and Marrone in a battling finish. Maskour made the pace till the last furlong, where Ernie Revel appeared likely, but he weakened and Ross and Marrone joined in. Ross struggled home by a neck and the judge could not separate Maskour and Marrone. Ernie Revel was a good

fourth and was followed by Jimmy Shand, Might Be and Pinex.

Lucky Bird was brought through a tight bunch comprising Twin Reward, Sirenic, Hornpipe, Blue Client, and Detached at the turn after Twin Reward and Sula had made most of the pace in the Okato Hack Handicap Lucky Bird was kicked clear of the field inside the last furlong and finished strongly to beat Dr. Jekyll by three lengths. Hornpipe was only a nose back, and Blue Client was right up fourth Robin’s Joy was fifth, then came Redfast and the favourite, Bright Coral, which was never near the front. STRONG FINISH

There was little between As Ordered, Sir Mink and Raydella at the half-mile in the Goodwill Handicap, but Sir Mink forced his way to the front in the last furlong and a half.

As Ordered stayed with him all the way up the straight, to be beaten by only a neck. •

The heavily-backed Camellia got up in time to snatch third by a neck from Aureum, Blue Countess, Eloquent and Mainotes, which were in line.
