Grocery Prices

Sir, —“Let's Be Realistic’s” letter shows an attitude which is anything but realistic. If I wanted to know the truth about grocery prices I would not be so naive as to ask a grocer. I stand by my original statements. I could have written a whole list of increased prices but space forbids. The grocery trade today is a shocking racket. Where does all the money come from for organised advertising in press and radio? And who pays for those big prizes the grocery firms offer in their socalled “competitions”? What’s more, there should be an inquiry into the exorbitant prices charged in milk bars and restaurants for cakes, sandwiches, and so forth. Hotels give a mediocre service for prices such as £l5 a week, which is what one Dunedin visitor to Christchurch recently paid. How about it? I think it's time to be realistic, too.— Yours, etc..
